The first lectures in the College of Law were given at the University of Minnesota on September 11, 1888 by Dean William S. Pattee to 27 students in the Hermean room in the basement of Old Main. Carl Abraham Auerbach was born on October 2, 1915 in New York City. He earned his B.A. in 1935 from Long Island University and his L.L.B. in 1938 from Harvard Law School. From 1938-1940, he worked as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Labor. Beginning in 1940, he was attorney and counsel for the Office of Price Admission and from 1943-1946 he was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
